We are through demolition days 2 and 3, and things are still moving along at almost breakneck speed. With so many different crews at the house at the same time, it’s practically a full time job fielding issues and questions. It’s chaos.
But it’s EXCITING chaos!
I was taking photos of the master bath demo when I heard a gasp behind me. I turned around and instinctively hit the shutter. This is the face I captured. “Mommy, they broke your bathroom!” She said, horrified.
This was the scene in the morning. Counter removed, the floor half-removed, and the existing tub removed.
But look at it the next day – that whole corner almost completely cleaned out! The strange plumbing platform and the tile on the floor and wall all gone! This will be the location of the new shower.
I was most excited to see this little corner shower get torn out! We are going to be moving the toilet over a little bit and framing in this nook as a “water closet” for extra privacy.
This part was pretty exciting – all of the existing cabinets and those dated 1970’s soffits being torn out. Thankfully, the soffits were empty when they opened them up. I had nightmares of them being full of wires and ducting that would be $$$ to reroute.
We salvaged a few of the cabinets and gave them to one of the workers who had a use for them, but I noticed most of them ended up as a scrap heap in the driveway.
‘Twas satisfying.
Both exciting and a little disconcerting to see it like this.
Like, seriously crazy.
The ceiling scraper crew also arrived and taped down paper on every square inch of the floor to prep for removing the old textured “stomp” ceiling.
Because it is in every. single. inch. of that house. Even in the tiniest of hall closets – yup, stomp ceiling.
The crew did a quick trial in the upstairs bathroom to get an idea of how the texture was gonna behave and how much mudding it’ll take to fix it, so this is just a quick ‘n dirty look at a before and after with the hallway just outside of this room. So exciting!!
But that’s not all that was going on – the new walls for the basement apartment started going up… and they went up FAST!
This photo was taken standing in what will be the living area, looking toward a pantry, door into the bedroom, and the bedroom closet. Existing doors into a spare room and basement bathroom are off until the left.
